No one wants to suffer from razor bumps. It’s an embarrassing condition that we’d all rather avoid. But as much as we try to avoid it, it happens. Razor bumps are incredibly common, especially among African American men and other men (particularly on the neck) who shave with a blade. While they can be treated, sometimes they are so severe that they need medical attention.
What is Post-Shave Irritation?
Post-shave irritation is caused by shaving too close to the skin surface or over-applying pressure while shaving. It can be characterized by redness, itching, and swelling that develops on the face, neck and other areas of the body. Post-shaving irritation can also be caused by cuts or nicks on your face which may result from improper shaving technique or a dull blade.
The affected area can become inflamed with bumps and redness that lasts for several days after shaving. Post-shave irritation can also occur due to improper cleaning of your razor and not drying it properly after use. This causes bacteria to grow on your razor which could lead to infection or inflammation of the skin.
The bumpy rash caused by post-shaving irritation can be very painful and irritating for some men, especially if you have sensitive skin that reacts strongly to shaving products such as gels, lotions, creams and soaps used during shaving.

Remedies
1. Shave at the end of your shower or bath. This helps soften the hair follicles and makes it easier to shave without irritation or razor bumps.
2. Use a moisturizing shaving cream or gel and apply it liberally on your face before you shave. This will help keep your skin hydrated while shaving, which will reduce the chances of getting razor burns and bumps.
3. Change your blade after every 5-7 shaves for maximum effectiveness and safety.
4. Be careful not to press too hard when shaving with a disposable razor because this can cause nicks on your skin which can lead to infection if not treated promptly.
5. Always rinse your face with warm water after shaving as this removes any leftover soap from your skin which could irritate it further.
6. Finish with alcohol-free aftershave. Avoid products with alcohol or menthol – they dry out your skin, cause redness, and are irritating to many people. Rather use aftershave that contains natural antiseptics which help the skin repair itself without infections or red bumps.
7. Aloe vera gel is an effective treatment for sensitive skin; it has anti-inflammatory properties and acts as an antiseptic agent which helps soothe irritation caused by shaving. It also contains vitamins A and C which help heal damaged skin cells. You can use aloe vera gel directly on your face or mix it with other ingredients before applying it to your face to get maximum results.
The body is constantly renewing its skin. A good shaving routine is essential for general health and beauty. Skin prone to irritation should prepare before shaving to avoid post-shave problems. The use of organic shaving cream and organic after-shaves is highly important.
