Traveling to Iceland is like stepping into a dream of untouched nature, dramatic landscapes, and unique adventures. My recent trip to the land of fire and ice, in partnership with Play Airlines, took this experience to new heights. With Play Airlines, a newer airline out of Reykjavik, every part of the journey was an adventure—smooth, affordable, and designed for explorers eager to “pay less, play more.”

Fly in comfort without hurting your wallet
From the moment I arrived at Hamilton International Airport for my flight to Reykjavik, the efficiency and no-fuss approach of Play Airlines were clear. Their Airbus A321NEO aircraft offered modern comfort without unnecessary frills, focusing on the essentials to keep costs low. Passengers enjoy generous baggage allowances, and I loved the freedom of having both a carry-on and checked bag included in the Play Value bundle. In-flight, the service was friendly, and the optional meal was quite tasty.

After a smooth overnight flight, I landed in Iceland’s Keflavik Airport at dawn, greeted by crisp air and otherworldly scenery. Play Airlines is more than just a flight; it’s a gateway to adventure, and this trip was packed with some of Iceland’s top attractions.
Day One: Sky Lagoon serenity
Our first destination was the Sky Lagoon, located just outside Reykjavik. This geothermal spa, with its infinity pool overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, was the perfect way to unwind after the flight. Immersing myself in the warm waters, surrounded by rugged cliffs and the soft sound of the ocean, was a reminder of Iceland’s powerful connection to nature. The Sky Ritual, a rejuvenating experience of hot and cold therapies, made me feel utterly relaxed, as if the stresses of everyday life had melted away with the steam.
That evening, we dined at Monkeys, a unique fusion restaurant in Reykjavik that blends Icelandic ingredients with South American flavours. The atmosphere was lively, and the food creative—perfectly capturing the eclectic spirit of Reykjavik’s culinary scene.

Day Two: Exploring Iceland’s south coast
The next day began with a full-day tour of Iceland’s South Coast, a region known for its breathtaking waterfalls and glacier hikes. Our guide from Arctic Adventures led us to the towering Seljalandsfoss waterfall, where I marveled at the force of nature while walking behind the cascade. The experience was surreal. From there, we journeyed to the mighty Skógafoss waterfall and finished the day with a glacier hike on Sólheimajökull. Standing on the ancient ice, surrounded by volcanic ash deposits, was awe-inspiring—a true reminder of Iceland’s dynamic and ever-changing landscape.
Dinner that night at Kol was another highlight. This trendy spot in Reykjavik is known for its gourmet Icelandic cuisine, and I wasn’t disappointed. I savoured dishes like lamb prepared with modern twists and locally sourced vegetables, each plate a work of art.
Day Three: Golden Circle & Snowmobile Adventure
On the third day, we embarked on another classic Icelandic adventure—the Golden Circle tour. Our first stop was Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet. Standing between two continents was an exhilarating experience.

Next, we visited the iconic Geysir geothermal area, where hot springs bubble and explode into the air, followed by a stop at Gullfoss, the Golden Waterfall, which lived up to its name. The grand finale of the day was an exhilarating snowmobile ride on Langjökull Glacier. Racing across the icy expanse, with nothing but white in every direction, was pure adrenaline-fuelled fun.
