Movember, the leading global men’s health charity, is partnering with Jon Montgomery, the Canadian TV host, Olympic gold medalist, and a personality as iconic as his moustache. The purpose? Montgomery is joining Movember to address some of the most pressing health issues faced by men today, including mental health, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer. The two are doing this by sending Montgomery’s moustache where no stache has ever been before.

With a shared mission to challenge the silence surrounding men’s health, this collaboration aims to foster open conversations, raise awareness, and drive significant change in how Canadian men approach their well-being. The health statistics confronting Canadian men in particular are both startling and troubling. On average, men in Canada die four years earlier than women—often for reasons that are entirely preventable. One in eight men in the country will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime, while testicular cancer remains the most common cancer affecting young Canadian men aged 15 to 40. Perhaps most alarmingly, three out of four suicides in Canada are completed by men, highlighting a profound and urgent need to address mental health within this demographic.
Jon Montgomery is no stranger to challenges, whether hurtling down an ice track or guiding contestants across the nation on The Amazing Race Canada. Now, he’s channeling that same energy and determination into tackling the men’s health crisis. “Our fathers, partners, brothers, co-workers, and friends are in the midst of a health crisis, but it’s rarely discussed openly,” Montgomery emphasizes. “The worst thing you can do for yourself and those around you is to stay silent until it’s too late. This is why I’m proud to join Movember to raise awareness about what we can do to challenge the status quo and support research that will transform the way health services reach and support men.”
Breaking the silence: Encouraging conversations and support
For many men, addressing health issues is often accompanied by a reluctance to seek help or talk openly about their struggles. This “lone wolf” mentality can have devastating consequences. Montgomery passionately urges men to abandon this mindset and instead, lean on the networks around them. “Put down the ‘lone wolf’ mantle and the idea that you have to ‘go it alone’ when it comes to your health journey,” Montgomery advises. “Lean into your network of health professionals, friends, family, and loved ones. Start with candid, honest conversations—talking is the first step, and actions follow.”
So whether you’re looking to learn a little more, grow your own moustache or donate to a good cause, there’s room for everyone on this journey.
