Menu
On the curated set menu was a fantastic assortment of meats and seafood. But first it started with a Pisco Sour, a signature Peruvian drink with a nice sour kick. First on the list of dishes was the Nikkei Sashimi plate, fresh, tasteful and light, a great way to start.
Once the Goyas with Sweet Potato Purée arrived, we immediately knew we were on the cusp of something good. Light, tasteful, one of my favourites. Next on the menu was a Braised Beef with Potato Purée. The beef practically melts in your mouth, the puree was a nice subtle touch, cooked to perfection.
The Pollo Marinated in Miso With Yogurt was a new one. Unsure what to expect I was pleasantly surprised by the freshness of it as the yogurt was quite a nice add on. The server decided to surprise us with a plate of Mushroom Tacos with Guac, a must try, they taste as good as they look. The king of the crop was the Torched Salmon Sushi – a new personal favorite. Firstly from an aesthetic perspective, having the torching action happen right at your table is a neat little effect. As a fan of any and all things sushi, it was a great way to top off the meal. Of course, the Mochi Ice Cream (Lychee, Passion Fruit & Coconut flavours) was just the right way to top off the evening.
Overall, this popping spot right in the heart of Toronto is a recommended go to. The ambiance is great, the crowds are lively and the hustle inside is never ending but just right. With two more locations in London and Miami, along with upcoming spots in Doha, Riyadh and Los Angeles, expect to see more of the Chotto Matte brand.
