After being chip leader for most of the tournament, very few were ultimately surprised to find Simon Wiciak of France as this year’s champion of the PokerStars EPT Barcelona Main Event. Besting a field of 2,120 others, Wiciak dominated the final table with João Sydenstricker of Brazil coming in second.

3-Way Deal
More common than not, the final table saw a 3-way deal struck between Wiciak, Sydenstricker and UK player Carl Shaw. From there it was game on for the EPT Barcelona title and the remaining €108,975 in prize money. “At three-handed, we were like even,” said Wiciak to Pokernews‘ Connor Richards. “So it was not that easy. And for me, it was a lot of money, that’s why we actually took the deal. If it had been a lower pay jump, maybe I would have refused [in order] to play my edge. But with this amount of money, I didn’t refuse it.”
In total, the players were playing for €10M win winnings. The EPT Barcelona took place from August 21 – September 3 which various qualifiers including a buy-in of just €250 all the way up to the massive €100,000 buy-in Super High-Roller tournaments.
EPT Cyprus
