What makes this particular year extra special is the fact it is the 35th anniversary of the Nike Air Max 1. The classic is dubbed as ‘the shoe that started it all’. Tinker Hatfield conceptualized the first Air Max model, which was released in 1987. Tinker drew inspiration for the inaugural design from the architecture of the Centre Pompidou during a visit to Paris. From there, the sneakers became a cultural phenomenon.
Around Air Max Day last year, sales for Air Max silhouettes across the board saw some serious spikes. More than a million Air Max sneakers were sold on eBay last year, making it the second highest-selling Nike sneaker on the platform. From February 2021 to March 2021, sales increased as follows:
- Air Max 1 by 72%
- Air Max 90 by 93%
- Nike Vapormax by 76%
- Air Max 95 by 69%
- Air Max 2090 by 93%
So whether you are a collector, an admirer, or you rock these kicks, as sneakerheads, it’s time to get ready for your Air Max Day looks.
