Empowering Canadian Youth
To celebrate this new partnership, Mercedes-Benz Canada surprised local kids from the Vancouver chapters of BBBSC with a visit from their brand ambassador and tennis icon Roger Federer. Federer joined the co-chairs of NYMAC to discuss the important role of mentorship, while also showing Bigs and Littles his special tips and tricks on the court during a tennis clinic.
“Driving Your Future” will offer vital support to BBBSC agencies nationwide, dedicated to identifying mentors for young individuals (“Littles”). In the meantime, a pressing need exists, with 10,000 children aged 7 to 18 across Canada eagerly awaiting mentorship opportunities.
“Driving Your Future is an extension of how Mercedes-Benz leads and accelerates change. We are taking positive action by uplifting and empowering the next generation of Canadian youth to help them reach their full potential,” said Andreas Tetzloff, President and CEO, Mercedes-Benz Canada.
Research affirms the life-altering impact of mentorship, noting the crucial role played by BBBSC in Canada. With even a single positive adult influence, studies have shown enhanced outcomes for children navigating challenging circumstances. What’s equally important is the impact it has, fostering brain development, physical well-being, and resilience.
“As you get older, you then actually start mentoring others without realizing it,” said Federer. “It’s been incredible fun for me being able to do that as well and mentor other kids, children, people who seek advice. It really makes me incredibly happy to be able to do that today.”
Amplifying Youth Voices
Mercedes-Benz Canada proudly takes the mantle as the title sponsor of BBBSC’s National Youth Mentoring Advisory Council (NYMAC). First-hand mentoring experiences have been provided to young individuals aged 17-28, as they make up the diverse council. NYMAC also serves as a vital conduit, shaping the path of BBBSC’s mentoring programs, providing invaluable insights and leadership.
By providing networking opportunities, unique experiences, and mentorship programs that empower these young leaders, Mercedes-Benz Canada showcases their commitment to actively engaging with NYMAC members. Through this effort, Mercedes-Benz Canada is empowering these young leaders, ultimately enhancing BBBSC’s mentoring initiatives for children across the nation.
