We’re officially on Episode 2 of our Gent’s Talk podcast! In this episode, we got together for “The Gents Segment.” During this segment of Gent’s Talk, Samir Mourani, Matthew Chapman and Ayman Hbeichi dove into topics surrounding the subject of toxic masculinity.
According to Google, toxic masculinity is “a set of attitudes and ways of behaving stereotypically associated with or expected of men, regarded as having a negative impact on men and society as a whole.” Because the definition changes person by person, we dove straight into the touchy subject, starting with how each of us defines toxic masculinity.
As it often does, this topic naturally gravitated towards showing emotions, or the lack thereof. We discussed why men struggle with showing emotion, and the positives (and potential negatives) of opening up and showing them. We can all agree that we need to do a better job steering away from the initial anger, and communicating what’s bothering us.

Episode 02!
A central talking point was the importance of having the right group of men around. It’s a lot easier said than done, but it’s beyond evident that it’s needed. We were able to give some insight into how we’ve established relationships that focus on substance. We all have boys we’ll fight for, yet it’s still tricky to confide with one another about what we’re going through. Acknowledging it is the first step.
“We’re more likely to fight for you than to tell you hey, I’m in a really bad spot,” says Samir, “Why am I so quick to aggression and so slow to say I’m struggling..”
The unmistakable impact of having someone who believes in you—someone who can cheer at your goals, was also covered. The importance of someone that encourages you to chase your dream, instead of shutting them down. The real question of why we’re all doing this was asked near the end, and it’s great to hear the “why’s.”
