It’s hockey night, which means only a certain type of food is fitting for the occasion. Whether you’re team is losing and you want to cheer yourself up, or your team is on top and you want to celebrate, there’s only one particular food that fits here and that is of course the glorious order of chicken wings. SkipTheDishes, the official food delivery app of the NHL since 2021, is delivering game day favourites and elevating the at-home viewing experience for fans.

In a recent survey of hockey enthusiasts, Skip discovered that over 70% of fans enjoy indulging in their favorite foods while watching the game. As fans prepare for their game day festivities, Skip unveiled innovative In-Active Wearable Tech to protect fans from potential food-related disasters. In 2021, Skip introduced the iconic Playoff Pants, featuring comfortable stretchy pants with built-in napkins to tackle sauces and messes. This NHL season, Skip introduces The GameTime Tarp, a game-changer for messy food incidents.
The Skip GameTime Tarp, crafted with absorbent fibers, doubles as a fashion statement and functional accessory, complete with a towel-lined front pocket for all your snacking needs. To bring this practical yet stylish piece to life, Skip collaborated with Canadian fashion designer Izzy Camilleri, who designed it with fans, gamers, and multitasking eaters in mind.

Phil Sylver, Head of Creative, Brand & Content at SkipTheDishes, notes, “As a Canadian company, we’re continually reimagining the at-home hockey viewing experience and how we can enhance it. The GameTime Tarp is a testament to our team’s deep understanding of genuine fandom and how Skip can make these moments even more enjoyable.”
To demonstrate the GameTime Tarp’s function and capabilities, Skip partnered with Leon Draisaitl, an Edmonton Oilers forward, and Olympic Champion Marie-Philip Poulin in a new ad that aired on October 14th. Elevating the viewing experience, Skip launches the Order. Shoot. Win. contest, offering exciting prizes. Hockey fans can win their very own Skip GameTime Tarp by participating through the Skip app. With every order, customers get a chance to win Skip’s exclusive GameTime Tarp, Skip and NHLShop.ca gift cards, or a $5,000 all-expense paid trip to the 2024 Rogers NHL All-Star Weekend in Toronto. Exclusive Skip deals will be available all season long.
Chicken Wings
To add flavour to the viewing experience, Skip surveyed Canadian hockey fans about their favourite game day eats, and the top choice was wings, with 82% of fans choosing them as their go-to hockey snack. Furthermore, 61% of those who prefer chicken wings as their game day snack consume at least 1.5 pounds of wings in one sitting. Last hockey season, Canadians ordered an astounding 13 million chicken wings across the Skip network.
To cater to fan preferences, Skip partners with Boston Pizza to introduce ‘Double Overtime Wings,’ an exclusive double order of Boston Pizza’s renowned chicken wings with three times the sauce, available solely through Skip.
Hockey fans can place their order for Double Overtime Wings through the Skip app or website starting on October 11, 2023.
