When the moon hits your eye, like a big pizza pie, that’s…Trattoria Taverniti. Nestled neatly along the always busy College street in Toronto, you will be transported to beautiful Italy for some fine gnocchi and lasagna alongside some fantastic vino. Gent’s Post had the opportunity to try out some of the menu items and calling all pizza lovers! This is a must try.
Little Italy
Originally opened on April 8th, 2011, Trattoria Taverniti looks like the little Italian dinner spot prime for a romantic evening. With checkered table tops, exposed brick walls and an intimate environment, put the cell phones away and take it all in. It’s easy to tell it’s a proud family run business because one of the owners, Anthony Taverniti, was present making the pizzas himself.
The Menu
Among the many menu options, a few particulars stand out. The Calamari Fritti is a great starter and generous on portions so definitely a shareable. Next up was the Carpaccio di Manzo, a plate of thinly sliced seasoned top sirloin steak with lemon, truffle oil, balsamic reduction, shaved parmigiano and arugula. Yes, it’s as good as it sounds.
For the starters, this one is for the pizza lovers. The Calabrese is a must try. Tomato sauce, mozzarella, hot soppressata, n’duja, black olives with drizzled honey. The other starter, yes there were two, was the Penne Rosina. It comes in a creamy rosé sauce with n’duja and hot soppressata.

The next time you’re considering Italian for lunch or dinner, keep Taverniti on your radar. If downtown isn’t your fancy, there are other locations as well including Rosina, Tav’s and Taverniti North which all make up part of the Taverniti Group.
