Happy Holidays! In the spirit of Christmas, we sat down with model Paul Mason for Episode 23. Paul has earned the appellation “Fashion Santa” among Canadians for his Kris Kringle-esque facial hair and fashionably festive attire. December for Paul Mason is extremely busy, so be prepared to see a lot of him throughout the upcoming weeks (just like Santa)! During our conversation with Mr. Mason, we discussed where the idea for Fashion Santa came from and some of the pros/cons of living up to a fictitious persona.
Always Be Cautious.
The “business” is known to be ferocious if you’re not careful, and Fashion Santa has experienced this firsthand. Please take a listen as he talked about some of that with us. Paul put together the pitch for Fashion Santa himself. He was initially excited that a significant player ran with it, but unfortunately, even though they ran with it, they also ran away with it. “You have to protect yourself right away, even if it’s the dumbest idea,” Paul cautiously warned, “it may not be dumb to someone else.”

Fashion Santa vs Sexy Santa
Occasionally dubbed “Sexy Santa,” although he loves the idea, Paul fears that Sexy Santa may interfere with what matters most to him, the children. He admits that it would be challenging to market Sexy Santa and be able to do his charitable work. Naughty vs nice, ironically, is still one of Santa’s biggest challenges.
“It’s so funny because I’m not the children’s Santa, but I do more work for children than I would for anything else.”

When asked what’s next, Paul showed us that this is just the beginning! His heartfelt story is what sets Paul Mason apart from your average influencer. The caring man behind the persona is a strong promoter of acknowledgment, and he believes that “if it takes just going a little bit extra to make someone feel good about who they are… then so be it.”

No stranger to grief, Paul is a man who had lost his mother to cancer. In the depths of despair, after not shaving for a year, this unfortunate tragedy sparked the beginning of something special. Unbeknownst to him, Fashion Santa was born. All it took was looking a little like Santa, having a background in fashion, and the right entrepreneurial spirit.
