Chef’s Thoughts
Our beloved small businesses and local culinary staples felt the hurt these last two years as much as anyone and they are working tirelessly to rebound and put the city back on the culinary map.
How are they planning on doing this? Well Gent’s Post spoke to several of the chefs participating in this year’s event. We asked two simple questions: What does being part of an initiative like this mean to them and why is this event so important?
Chef Nuit Regular (Pai):

“It means a lot to me to be part of the Second Harvest initiative and I’m so delighted to be involved with Toronto Taste once again! It’s important to me to support Toronto Taste because I truly believe in the work that Second Harvest does to feed people in our community. No one should have to go hungry, and with the continued rising costs of living, it is becoming increasingly difficult for a lot of people to buy basic food staples to feed themselves and their families. I really admire the work Second Harvest does in rescuing food from the supply chain and bringing it to people who can really use it through community initiatives. I’m so happy that me and my team can be part of this amazing event and do what we can to help raise money for this incredible cause!”
Chef David Adjey (BOUFFE):
“As chefs, we cook not only to nourish people, but mostly to entertain and delight our guests. We simply can’t do this with a clear conscience without doing our part to help feed the less fortunate. Second Harvest helps chefs bring balance to this very difficult equation.”

Chef Matt Basile (Fidel Gastro):
“My grandfather came to this country with $4. Feeding his family, bringing people to his table and giving them quality food was how he understood wealth and happiness. Working with Second Harvest is an opportunity to do my part to ensure as many people as possible have the basic right to good food. The Toronto Taste event all the way to the food drop offs – it proves how we are all connected to and by the food we eat.”
Gastronaut Bob Blumer (Second Harvest Ambasador & Event Co-host):

“No single industry has been more affected by the pandemic than restaurants. Yet it’s Toronto’s restaurateurs who are rallying to bring their ‘A’ game to Toronto Taste to raise money and awareness for Second Harvest—and the GTA community it serves. I will be co-hosting the main stage, and auctioning a multi-course, multi-wine dinner at my home in Los Angeles for two simple reasons: respect, and a desire to help make Toronto a more food-equitable city.”
