5. Spanish Steps
After a long day of walking around (and shopping of course), stop over and take a seat on the super popular Spanish Steps. The unique design and elegance of the infamous spot makes for great photos for that IG collection of yours. It is always busy but absolutely worth it. Adding to the ambiance is the Fontana della Barcaccia at the bottom of the steps credited to Pietro Bernini.
4. Roman Forum
If you like history then take a stroll through the spot that once served as the center of daily life for early Romans. With towering columns and an open layout, the Roman Forum is a must visit. The area was used as a site for gatherings, elections, trials, and even had gladiator fights. Plan accordingly as this a hot spot for tourists on their way to the colosseum.

3. Colosseum
Speaking of the Colosseum, an absolute colossus of a structure, nearly 2000 years after it was originally built, it still stands as one of the world’s most iconic sites. With a seating capacity of approximately 50,000 this site was host to games, festivities, and of course, the great battles of the infamous gladiators. Despite years of wear and tear, the colosseum is still a large and daunting structure. It’s highly recommended you purchase a guided archeological tour to retrace the very same steps of the brave gladiators before you.
2. Trevi Fountain
Standing nearly 85 feet tall, the Trevi Fountain is one of Rome’s oldest water sources. With beautiful architecture, the fountain is a popular tourist destination, also great for that IG pic. There’s a tradition when visiting this iconic spot. It’s said that if you throw a coin over your shoulder, then it guarantees you a safe return back to Rome. Throw two coins, and you’ll find love. Throw three…well you might just start hearing wedding bells in the background. The bonus? All the coins are collected daily and donated to charity.
1. Vatican City
Last, but absolutely not least, you must visit Vatican City. A little known fact – it’s considered the smallest country in the world. Yes that’s right, Vatican City is a country within a country with its own rules and laws. If that isn’t interesting enough of a reason to visit, well you can always make some time to check out one of the most famous square in the world – St. Peter’s Square. Also, don’t forget to check out the gorgeous Sistine Chapel. When in the Basilica of St. Peter, you can climb to the top of the building for beautiful panoramic views of Rome. Warning, it’s a long and narrow climb to the top.
