Happy New Year! Now that we got that out of the way, it’s time to turn our focus and attention to making this new year the best it can possibly be. Whether it was getting that promotion, starting that business or finally taking your health seriously, we all need a guiding point on where to start. There are 3 simple ways you can achieve the success you’re looking for and it comes in the form of goal setting, habits and mindset.
Goals
The new year comes with new resolutions. Many of which are broken in the first week of January. So how do you maintain long term success, or delayed gratification as I like to think of it, well you’ll have to be very clear about what you want. Once you’ve figured out what that desired goal is, write it down. You can use a whiteboard, a journal, or on your phone. Make it a priority to put your goals down someplace where you can easily access it and review your progress. Many people like to journal as an outlet and this could be a good way to get your goals out of your head and onto paper.
Habits
The hardest thing to do is build consistent habits that allow you to position yourself for success. It takes repetition, dedication and often times doing it when you really don’t feel like it. We all have a morning routine right? It’s an automatic, you don’t even think about it. That’s because years of repetition has turned that into an habit. Write down what you want to become a habit, make a checklist for yourself and make it a point to complete it every single day. Mark your progress along the way because visually seeing your progress will motivate you to keep going.

Mindset
It’s one of those days. You already don’t feel like getting out of bed. The last thing you want to do is get to that checklist of yours. We’ve all been there and we will all be there again. This is where you have to train your mind to sharpen it for these moments. Make sure you understand your why. Go back to your goals, read them. Listen to a podcast, like the Gent’s Talk pod here. A neat little trick is counting backwards from five to zero. It forces the front part of your brain to wake up. This is by far the hardest one to achieve consistently. Know that it’s okay when you have off days, but find ways to motivate yourself and get back to it. Your dreams are waiting.
