When someone important dies, what we often long for most is one more conversation — a final moment of honesty, reflection, or connection. Netflix’s new docuseries Famous Last Words offers exactly that: intimate, in-depth interviews with cultural icons, recorded under the agreement that they would only be aired after their passing.

Famous Last Words
The second episode of the series features beloved actor Eric Dane, filmed last November in a private session conducted by Emmy Award winner Brad Falchuk. Best known for his roles as Dr. Mark “McSteamy” Sloan on Grey’s Anatomy and Cal Jacobs on HBO’s Euphoria, Dane reflects on his life, career, and the personal truths that shaped him.

Born November 9, 1972, in San Francisco, Dane began acting in the early 1990s, appearing in series such as Saved by the Bell, The Wonder Years, Roseanne, Married with Children, and Charmed. His guest role on Grey’s Anatomy as the charismatic plastic surgeon Dr. Sloan proved so popular that he was elevated to a leading role. Years later, his portrayal of Cal Jacobs in Euphoria — a man leading a life of secrecy — struck audiences globally.
In April 2025, Dane publicly revealed he had been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a progressive neurological disease affecting muscle control. Despite the diagnosis, he remained determined to continue working and returned for Season 3 of Euphoria. He died on February 19, 2026, at 53, leaving behind his daughters, Billie and Georgia — to whom he directs his final words in the episode.
Like the series’ inaugural interview with ethologist and conservationist Dr. Jane Goodall, Dane’s conversation was recorded in total privacy, with only interviewer and subject present. The sessions are captured by remotely operated cameras, preserving an unfiltered intimacy. Each episode concludes with the subject looking directly into the camera, delivering final reflections presented unedited and in full. The episode featuring Eric Dane is now streaming on Netflix.
