Welcome to Episode 35 of the Gent’s Talk podcast, where we sat down with Miranda Galati. The Registered Dietician from Barrie, ON, discussed mindful eating and ensuring your diet is sustainable and enjoyable. She focuses on small goal setting to help find ways to make healthy eating accessible long-term.
Galati, RD
Miranda answered many questions but started off by addressing one of the most common myths surrounding dieting. “People think it’s more complicated than it should be,” she simply stated. She stressed that no magic pill or solution exists for your weight journey. Focusing solely on the next step versus the next one hundred steps is the cheat code.

Mindful Eating
According to the Harvard School of Public Health, “mindful eating is when you use your physical and emotional senses to experience and enjoy your food choices.” Galati preaches prioritizing mindful eating. Mindful eating allows you to enjoy food without getting discouraged by all the numbers. Instead of counting calories and weighing food, she suggests the plate method (dividing your plate with portions of protein, carbohydrates, fruits/vegetables, and healthy fats) as a simplistic alternative. Miranda Galati emphasizes that we should always do plenty of research before jumping into a diet.
Sustainability
The foundation of most diets is controlling caloric intake. Miranda highlighted that picking a diet you can maintain is of utmost importance. If you feel lousy or reluctant to a specific diet, then it’s not for you. “At the end of the day, if we want weight loss, we need to eat a little less than our body requires, consistently over time,” Galati advised. Not a fan of most fad diets, Miranda recommends speaking to a health professional before starting, as everyone’s body is different. What works for someone may not work for you, and vice versa.
Miranda also went into detail about the many misconceptions surrounding carbohydrates, intermittent fasting, and the importance of proper protein intake. For those who struggle with their relationship with food, please tune into Episode 35 for an informative conversation with Miranda Galati.
