After a six-year absence, Formula 1 is officially heading back to Türkiye. The Formula 1 Turkish Grand Prix will return to TOSFED Istanbul Park from October 1 to 3, 2027, as part of the 2027 FIA Formula One World Championship calendar. Practice and qualifying will take place across October 1 and 2, followed by the main event on October 3. The comeback will mark the 10th time the Turkish Grand Prix has been held at İstanbul Park and begins a new chapter for the country’s relationship with Formula 1. Races are scheduled to take place at the circuit from 2027 through 2031, organized by the Turkish Automobile Sports Federation (TOSFED).

One of Formula 1’s most memorable circuits
For drivers, returning to İstanbul Park means facing one of the championship’s more technically demanding tracks. The 5.3-kilometre circuit combines overtaking opportunities with significant elevation changes, creating a challenge for both car and driver. But one section in particular has helped establish the track’s international reputation: Turn 8.

The ultra-fast, multi-apex left-hander demands considerable balance while placing significant lateral loads on drivers and tyres. Combined with the circuit’s mix of speed, rhythm and technical complexity, it has the ingredients to produce plenty of action when Formula 1 returns in 2027.
Istanbul returns to the global stage
Türkiye’s return to the Formula 1 calendar was initially announced in April at a ceremony attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The confirmed race date now puts Istanbul on track to once again welcome thousands of motorsport fans and some of the world’s leading drivers. Beyond what happens on track, organizers expect the Grand Prix to contribute to sports tourism, Istanbul’s economy and the city’s international media exposure.
The Türkiye Tourism Promotion and Development Agency (TGA) has already been promoting the race internationally. According to the press release, its “Catch It If You Can” promotional film has surpassed 571 million views. Further international media projects, digital campaigns and collaborations with content creators are planned ahead of the event.
The countdown to 2027 begins
The Turkish Grand Prix’s return is the result of efforts by TOSFED, with support from Türkiye’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Ministry of Youth and Sports. With Formula 1 now confirmed at TOSFED İstanbul Park from 2027 through 2031, October 3, 2027 will mark more than the return of a familiar circuit. It will begin a new five-year run for Formula 1 racing in Türkiye.
