Abraham-Louis Breguet’s iconic invention, the tourbillon, takes center stage once again with the introduction of the new 5577 references in the Marine collection. This remarkable timepiece features a slate-grey sunburst dial for the rose gold version and a navy blue dial for the platinum model. The tourbillon, positioned at 5 o’clock, captures attention with its rotating cage, completing a full rotation in just 60 seconds. To accentuate this intricate mechanism, the chapter ring is thoughtfully off-centered. Additionally, the hour-markers and open-tipped gold Breguet hands are luminescent, combining aesthetic appeal with functionality.

Legacy
The tourbillon’s legacy dates back to June 26, 1801, when it emerged from the brilliant mind of Abraham-Louis Breguet. More than two centuries later, this horological marvel remains one of the most captivating inventions in watchmaking history. Breguet pays homage to this innovation by incorporating it into the Marine collection, celebrating the enduring brilliance of Abraham-Louis Breguet.
Renewed Collaboration with Frieze
Breguet announced the continuation of its partnership with Frieze, the renowned contemporary art fair. This collaboration features a series of curated presentations that will enliven Breguet’s lounge. The journey commences during Frieze New York, held from May 17th to 21st at The Shed in Manhattan. Breguet will unveil the first instalment of a curatorial project conceived by independent curator Somi Sim. This project will unfold across Frieze’s Fairs in London, Los Angeles, New York, and Seoul.
In the second year of this collaboration, Frieze and Breguet appoint curator Somi Sim to oversee four distinct curated displays in the Breguet lounges throughout the year. Sim’s curatorial practice encompasses history, urbanism, design, and contemporary art. After visiting the Breguet manufacture and museum, Somi Sim was deeply impressed by the craftsmanship and precision of Breguet’s artisans. She drew inspiration from the intricate engineering involved in shaping our perception of time.
The inaugural chapter at Frieze New York, titled “Orbital Time,” features works by international artists, including a bespoke installation by the renowned Raqs Media Collective. This chapter challenges conventional notions of standardized time and, while reflecting on the art of watchmaking and Breguet’s technical innovations, frames horology as a realm for exploration. The Breguet-Frieze partnership is set to bring a fresh perspective to the intersection of art, time, and innovation.
