It’s February 2022 already! Yikes. It’s also that time of the new year when we start questioning the validity of those resolutions we hastily made back in December. Remember late December 2021? The holidays were wrapping up, and we were in that euphoric “next year will be different!” part of our story. It’s genuinely mesmerizing how that already seems like a lifetime ago…

Why can’t tomorrow be New Year’s Day, for argument’s sake? Why can’t we look at tomorrow through those same hopeful eyes of just a couple of months ago? It’s true; even though we said we weren’t going to, we still made a new years resolution in January. When someone asked, “what’s your new year’s resolution?” something crossed our minds… at least one pressing issue that we’ve been meaning to tackle floated through our brains right before we said “new year’s resolutions are stupid.”
Let’s address that train of thought.
Rocky Resolutions
We harbour a growth mindset, and looking for a way to become a better version of ourselves is usually high on the priority list. Regardless of personal views on new years resolutions, it’s virtually impossible to look at a calendar, see January quickly approaching and not think to ourselves, “something’s gotta change”. The shortest month of the year is amongst us, yet these February nights are long. Unfortunately, now we’re starting to notice that we haven’t been holding our end of this yearly declaration to the best of our abilities. Kudos, because you probably started off strong!
…Then, without fail, winter punches us in the mouth, and we’re left tasting the blood of our lost motivation. But what’s a little blood to a fighter. Right Rocky?
New Year’s Eve, Again
Just because we didn’t complete all 31 days of Dry January, or keep up healthy eating, or any number of other failed goals, doesn’t mean we have to ditch it entirely. It doesn’t help that this year also started with lockdowns. Although long overdue, we’re finally starting to open things back up! As this happens, we need to take this opportunity to reapply that pressure on our goals. Write January off if you must and consider tonight your New Year’s Eve.
Gentlemen, this is your monthly mental health check-in. How do we feel about the first month of the year? Did we crush all our goals? Sigh. Identical brother, same.
Hopefully, you’ve been able to keep that momentum going. For those of us who have not, we can always start again. There’s nothing wrong with losing momentum as long as we can acknowledge it and regain focus. Let tomorrow be where your new year begins!
Happy new New Year’s Eve.
