“Show me something I have never seen before”. These were the words spoken to CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös when coming up with the blueprint for Rolls-Royce’s newest project. One of the world’s most luxurious automakers has taken ambitious designing to new levels by introducing its newest commissioned masterpiece – the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail. A vehicle Müller-Ötvös calls, “Bespoke at its purest”.

Coachbuild
Developed through the Coachbuild program, Rolls-Royce partnered with some of its most prestigious clientele to come up with the design. Coachbuild is a distinctively ambitious program, started by the automaker in 2017. It aims to give unique clientele freedom of expression in the design process. This is the same process by which the automaker introduced the Sweptail model.

Head of Coachbuild, Alex Innes, points out that “capturing the client’s personality is fundamental; Coachbuild elevates this principal to its highest plane. It is an artistic skillset only existing in Rolls-Royce”.
Specs
The wow factor is not limited to just the aesthetic of the car but also its size. As result, the Boat Tail brings along with it an overwhelming sense of presence. Innes further notes “it’s really the proportion and the scale that does the talking”. Fashioned together from sheet aluminum, the vehicle sports an oceanic blue for that nautical inspiration. It also combines subtlety with vibrance alongside a smooth hand-crafted exterior meaning the Boat Tail stands out for all the right reasons.
The car also boasts a series of features customized to match the personalities of the clients involved in the design process. It comes with two-sided timepieces that can be worn or simply used as car clocks – a collaboration between Rolls-Royce and Bovet 1822 over 3 years in the making. It even boasts a double refrigerator to house your preferred vintages with the ability to rapidly cool the bottles to just the right temperature.

But the most unique feature of them all is the creative, yet ambiguous, deck that, at the pressing of a button, opens from the rear in a “sweeping butterfly gesture” to reveal a suite of hosting features. It includes serving plates and utensils, pull out stools for seating, as well as foldable picnic tables and finally, an umbrella for shade. Hosting in luxury on the go, anytime, anywhere.
This very kind of experience truly puts the Rolls-Royce in a different category from other automakers. If bespoke and originality was the approach, then prestige and class was the execution.
