Starfighter
Unlike past entries, Star Wars Starfighter isn’t tied directly to the Skywalker legacy. Set roughly five years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker (2019), the film will introduce an entirely original cast of characters. It will and explore a previously unseen era in the Star Wars timeline. According to Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy and Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni, this new setting offers an exciting opportunity to tell stories without the constraints of existing lore.

Shawn Levy, whose directing credits include Deadpool & Wolverine and Stranger Things, is set to helm the project. With a track record of blending action, emotion, and humour, Levy’s vision could breathe new life into the beloved franchise. Joining him is Ryan Gosling, fresh off his Oscar-nominated role in 2024’s Barbie. Known for his versatility in films like La La Land and Drive, Gosling’s casting adds serious star power to a film already generating major buzz.
Production is expected to begin in fall 2025, with more details—including the plot and additional cast—likely to be unveiled as the release date approaches. With Starfighter, Lucasfilm is boldly venturing into uncharted territory, offering longtime fans and newcomers alike a chance to rediscover the magic of Star Wars from a whole new perspective.
