Usain Bolt
Usain Bolt, celebrated for his record-breaking sprints over 100m and 200m, tested the sprint capabilities of the GENBETA car at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez circuit. Remarkably, he achieved 0-60mph in just 2.89 seconds, completing 100m in 4.36 seconds – significantly faster than his world record 100m time.
The GENBETA race car, a modified version of the GEN3 – the fastest, lightest, and most powerful electric race car ever built by Formula E – allowed Bolt to experience its 400kW power firsthand. Formula E World Champion driver Jake Dennis and former F1 star David Coulthard were present to provide Bolt with coaching and guidance during his run.
Bolt’s reaction to driving the GENBETA was one of awe and excitement. He described the car as a “rocket ship on wheels,” noting the surprising power from the start and the adrenaline rush it provided. The experience, he said, was like nothing he’s ever felt before, leaving him eager for more.
This event not only highlighted Bolt’s legendary speed but also underscored the innovative and exciting developments in electric motorsport technology, as represented by Formula E’s GENBETA race car. “What could be more Formula E than bringing together two world record holders – Usain Bolt and our GENBETA race car”, notes Jeff Dodds, CEO of Formula E. “Put the world’s fastest man in this incredible race car and he was always going to push to the limit. Once a champion, always a champion” adds David Colthard, former F1 driver and Formula E TV presenter.
