Happy New Year! We’re excited to ring in the new year with TV personality/motivational speaker Tychon Carter-Newman. Tychon is the first Black person to win the Big Brother Canada series! During Episode 25 of our podcast, we discussed struggling with emotions, mindfulness and mental health journeys. Tychon also spoke on what he felt after his big win.
Can We Normalize That?!
We jumped right into one of Tychon’s upcoming projects, ‘Can We Normalize That?!‘ which is a panel discussion around the theme of Mental Wellness for Media Personalities. This panel, accompanied by the likes of Jully Black, Ika Wong and Akil Augustine, focuses on the importance of having relatable conversations about managing our relationship with our minds. As media and social media become more prominent parts of our lives, we love that such a notable social media presence has put this panel together.

Vulnerability Breeds Vulnerability
A firm believer in men being able to communicate their feelings confidently, Tychon gave us his insights on approaching difficult conversations with those stubborn friends. “It starts with vulnerability,” he stated. Being vulnerable ourselves first often makes it easier for those who find it challenging to be vulnerable. Doing that gives the feeling of safety. He usually takes time to set intentions and visualize such conversations beforehand. If you have a friend who needs a little nudge, try revealing a time when you felt unsound first; it may help get that progressive conversation going.
Tychon After BBCAN9
It was surprising that coming off the high of a life-changing win on BBCAN9, Tychon had an overwhelming feeling of loneliness. When he had time to process everything, it led him to realize that happiness can only come from something internal. It’s moments like these that embody the importance of properly processing our emotions.
It’s A Mental Health JOURNEY
There are so many aspects of mental health that we try to tackle regularly. Tychon pointed out an essential element that is often forgotten: It is a journey. It’s an ongoing process that requires constant adjusting and readjusting. Tychon has a sound morning routine that he credits much of his stability to. He discussed how even that routine has to get adjusted as he grows.
It’s comforting to know that Mr. Carter-Newman, a motivational speaker and mental health advocate, has bad days, too, as do all of us human beings. Please tune into Episode 25 for our entire conversation with Tychon Carter-Newman, where he also shared some tips on what we can do as partners to support each other better.
