It can be difficult to find a useful everyday bag for the modern gent. It’s a delicate balance between aiming for a professional look without sacrificing functionality. It would also be a nice touch if that same bag could become multi-functional. Meaning it’s not for work only, but everyday use. Whether packing for overnight travel or perhaps a work conference where some gear is needed alongside a change of clothes. I had the opportunity to test run Arc’teryx Blade 20 Backpack for both overnight travel as well as for work purposes. The results, were quite impressive.

The Specs
The Arc’teryx Blade 20 Backpack is designed for the urban landscape but has the functionality to double as your travel pack. It comes in black and nocturnus (grey). It can carry up to 20lbs and includes slots for a laptop, tablet, smaller electronics, all your travel documents and some clothing like a jacket. There is also still leaves you room to add your lunch.
What makes this backpack so user friendly is the organizational design allowing for multiple compartments. The main pocket opens wide similar to your carry on. There are smaller compartments with side zippers to provide quick entry. If you’re worried about protecting your electronics, you can safely place your laptop (up to 15 inches) in the padded protected pocket and the backpack also includes an additional sleeve for your tablet.
Available online in both colours and retailing for $190.
Use Case
The backpack serves as a multifunctional pack with an internal organizer pocket for all your small essentials. There’s curated sections for phones and all your cables/power cords. There’s even a zippered security pocket and a stash pocket with a cable pass through so you can charge your devices without removing them from the pack. What really makes this pack ideal for your travels is the discreet pocket on the back panel that holds your passport and travel documents. Given it’s location, it adds the extra element of security so you’re not constantly checking whether your front pockets have been opened.
From a comfort perspective, the back panel adds comfort and load support. The shoulder straps have extra cushioning for long term use. What really stood out to me was the way it rests on your body when you’re in motion. It hugs you just enough that it’s not swinging behind you while you move. Overall, the pack was exactly what I needed it to be. A sleek compact pack that I can use for the everyday terrain.
