The galaxy far, far away just got a little closer. Ahead of its highly anticipated release, The Mandalorian and Grogu is already generating serious momentum, thanks to a series of global fan events hosted by Lucasfilm at select IMAX theatres. Designed as exclusive “special look” screenings, the events brought fans face-to-face with the franchise—sometimes quite literally.

Global fan experiences
In Los Angeles, fans at AMC The Grove 14 were treated to a surprise appearance by Dave Filoni, Lucasfilm’s president and chief creative officer. Filoni introduced the screening and spent time engaging directly with fans, setting the tone for what these events were all about: access, excitement, and a shared love for the universe.

Over in New York, things took a more theatrical turn. At AMC Lincoln Square 13, audiences were greeted by none other than the Mandalorian himself—alongside Grogu—offering fans a rare chance to snap photos and soak in the moment before the footage rolled.
Europe didn’t miss out on the action either. In Berlin, a packed crowd of more than 1,000 fans gathered at UCI Luxe Cinemas for a special screening featuring Pedro Pascal, Sigourney Weaver, and director Jon Favreau. The event extended beyond the theatre, with the trio participating in a fan-focused photo stunt along the city’s Spree River—because if you’re going to celebrate Star Wars, you might as well do it with some scale.
Favreau also made a stop in Madrid, hosting a fan event and photo call at the historic Cine Callao, further cementing the film’s global rollout strategy. Set after the fall of the Empire, the film follows Din Djarin and Grogu as they navigate a galaxy still finding its footing under the New Republic, taking on scattered Imperial warlords along the way. It’s a continuation that blends familiar characters with a bigger cinematic canvas.

With music by Ludwig Göransson and a cast that also includes Jeremy Allen White, the film is shaping up to be more than just a spin-off—it’s a full-scale theatrical moment. And if these early fan events are any indication, the force is very much with it. The Mandalorian and Grogu opens exclusively in theatres May 22, 2026, with advance tickets already on sale.
